Benjamin!!!!
I wanted a new kitten, and I wanted it to be a boy. We still had Sydney and Emmy, but I was missing a boy furchild since Oliver passed away. I convinced Garrett and we went to the Kitsap Humane Society. It was definintely kitten season! There were so many but many were medium to long haired and Garrett has allergies to cats. Yep, you read that right- allergies to cats of which we have 3. I wanted a kitten that day and I found one that was available...only it was more of a medium haired. Garrett had been looking around and found this little one, though I forgot his original name. Benjamin played with his fingers and Garrett knew that he was the one. So unhappily, we wanted until the next day when he would be off of stray hold. You bet that we were there before they even opened! This is serious stuff I tell you.
So we adopted him and he had an immediate name change. Man, Benjamin was quite and still is, full of energy. It had been awhile since we had a kitten, like 1 to 2 months old kitten. Things were going well, the girls were accepting him. However, he started coughing, sneezing a lot and was wheezing. So I brought him in and the thought was an upper respiratory infection since those are common in shelters. Benjamin was put on antibiotics but it was not working. So he had this going on as well as worms. The worms were taken care of immediately with some dewormer so I just needed to watch the sneezing and coughing. I wasn't worried about the worms with the girls. They were on Revolution which protected them against the worms he had. Also, I have all the furchildren on an Optimum Wellness Plan so they get dewormers routinely, I think every 6 months, I don't recall. Having them on a plan is the best idea ever and I save so much money.
Anyway...
So the antibiotics weren't working and he was getting due for more boosters. They didn't wanted Benjamin to get the boosters since he wasn't in the greatest of health. Dr. Guzman at Banfield gave me options- xray his chest or blood work. I chose blood work. Dr. Guzman explored every option of what his blood could be tested for and thank goodness he did. So, feline kennel cough is extremely rare. I mean extremely rare as at that time, they didn't even have a test for it. Luckily, Dr. Guzman tested his blood work against the dog kennel cough. And bam! That was what was wrong. Benjamin got on medicine and got better in time to stay on schedule for his boosters. What a crazy start to life for this kitty.
It seems like the kennel cough has had no impact on him. Benjamin likes going on walks- yes, he walks on a leash. However, he prefers to walk where he wants to walk. Benjamin has a cute little harness and everything. So I was into doing fundraiser walks and it got boring doing them myself so Benjamin inspired me to get a stroller.
Benjamin liked baths for awhile. One time he was getting a bath and then the water temperature suddenly changed which caused him to have a seizure. :(
Now he only gets wipe baths.
Benjamin likes going on car rides!!
I almost want to say he has calmed down a bit, but that would be a lie. He loves playing with Ruby! It started off with him just wacking at her, but now they actually play. As in chase. I think he was upset at first because he wasn't the youngest anymore.
Emmy is definitely Ben's favorite play buddy. Occasionally he plays with Sydney, but she is a lot more vocal than Emmy about when enough is enough.
Benjamin has also taken an interest in our tortoise, Harvey.
After watching one of those reality shows, I think Swamp People or whatever Benjamin wanted to go alligator hunting. We have a fake alligator head and he climbed up the shelving unit and brought it down. Copy cat! Cat... get it? **cheesy joke**
Benjamin does not have a hard time at all getting into trouble. Let me show you!
