Sydney!!!
June is national Adopt a Shelter Cat Month so I am going to spotlight each of my current feline furchildren. Alright, so here I go talking about Sydney. So I had a dog named Cindi and a cat named Oliver. Cindi passed away and I wanted another dog. That however, did not fly so I convinced my parents about another kitty. There was one condition- that I drove to the Kitsap Humane Society. At that time, I hated driving and I mean hated it with a passion. I renewed my permit the max 2 times because I wanted to say I had a driving permit, but I did not want to learn to drive and take the test. (Yes, now I have my driver's license if you were wondering).
So I drove to the Kitsap Humane Society with my mom. I saw Sydney so tiny! She was friendly after she warmed up to you. Sydney had been in a foster home, but it could have been to the fact that she was too young or that she needed a little more socialization time. So we then adopted her. Her name was not Sydney at the time, it was the name of that skunk in a carton- Pierre or something. Obviously a name change happened during the paperwork. I should back track to say that before we went to the Kitsap Humane Society, I was going to name a kitty after Cindi, and that is how Sydney was born. After we adopted her, I convinced my mom to drive us home. I said that I was too worried that I would drive to forceful maybe. I mean not taking corners the best or braking too hard. So my mom did drive us home.
She joined our family and grew up with Oliver. Oliver took her under his wing and she opened up a bit. They were quite a pair for maybe 5 years until he passed away. Sydney took it hard and whenever it was near the anniversary of his passing, she had accidents.
I still can't get over what a pair they were. I had to write a children's book for school and made a picture book of them and talked about sharing the window perch. This photo is on the cover.
Sydney opened up even more when we got foster kittens. Oliver watched out for them too, but was more of a grumpy old man and so Sydney took a lot of the responsibility.
In 2010 Emmy was added to the family. Oliver however, passed away shortly after.
Now Sydney has two sisters and 1 brother. Last year our family grew with Benjamin and he sure keeps Emmy and Sydney busy!
This year Ruby joined our family. Sydney growls at her, but will still sleep by her. I think she secretly likes her and is just putting on a show. I mean, Sydney has even licked Ruby's nose. I still have yet to get a good photo of the two of them.
Now Sydney is 8 years old. When it is too hot outside, she isn't able to intake enough water and has accidents. We are doing all that we can to help her intake enough, but she can be stubborn.
Sydney sure has grown and become more adventurous. I give some credit to Benjamin for giving her a run for her money.
